5 top tips for a stress-free family holiday

The kids have broken up from school and many of us have booked a family holiday. Whether venturing abroad or staying closer to home, travelling in peak season can be a stressful experience if you're not well-prepared. If you're worried about your break being clouded by stress, follow these tips for limiting anxiety while on holiday.

1. Get the whole family involved
If you try to handle every aspect of your holiday alone, you are bound to feel more stressed. So give jobs to the whole family to lighten the load. Ask children to come up with a couple of activities they'd love to try and get your partner involved in planning day trip destinations. The more involved they are in the planning stage, the less stressed you'll be on your arrival.

2. Embrace new experiences

Travelling is good for the mind, not just the body. Travellers can become stressed because they refuse to try new things on holidays. Rather than worry, try fun activities that really give you an insight in local customs and traditions.

3. Allow time for flight delays or traffic queues

Everything takes longer when you have children in tow: FACT. So build in extra time to factor in any potential delays.

4. Unleash your kids' imaginations

Children have the most incredible imaginations. They are create other worlds, simply by thinking about them. This Book Stinks is an activity book for daring adventurers; with a new activity on every page, it will fuel their imaginations and keep them entertained for hours at a time.

5. Don't try to do too much

Holidays should be about resting your mind and body, after a hectic few months working and looking after your kids. You shouldn't fill every bit of your time with activities. Take some time out to be more mindful and simply learn to live in the moment. Mindful travel journal You Are Here is a great addition to any suitcase; full of simple mindfulness techniques, it will help you to develop a happy, peaceful mind. Remember: always make time for yourself on holiday.
